I love decorating for the seasons, and Fall is one of my favorites! Pumpkins, gourds, and leaves in every color can make your home cozy, but it's easy to get carried away! I've got a couple of tips to help you get your fall decor just right! Putting some thought into your autumn decorating choices can really elevate your happy place and allow you to use your decor for many years to come instead of just one season. Fall decorating is all about adding warmth and creating an inviting space while reflecting your own unique style.

Fall for Nature

Tasteful fall decorating starts with using colors and items already found in nature. Shades of earth tones and natural materials like wheat, wicker, greenery, and pinecones can bring a beautiful serene feeling to your space. A classic fall decorating strategy is to line your porch steps with beautiful pumpkins and adorn your front door with a natural wreath. This way your guests will be greeted by an array of inviting autumn color and warmth. Fall florals, foliage, and dried greenery can also transform the inside of your home. A blend of deep burgundy flowers and autumn foliage in earthy hues can become the focal point in your kitchen or living room.

You Can Always Use More Pumpkins

You need more pumpkins! Big ones, small ones, orange, white, and green ones! An assortment of pumpkins in a range of hues is a sure way to bring your home into the fall season. Of course you'll want them on your porch, but you'll also want them in your kitchen, on a bookshelf, or front and center on the coffee table for a fun and festive look. Don't forget your gourds! With the interesting variety and colors they will be great conversation starters and beautiful adornments. If you're used to the regular old orange pumpkins, try looking for sage-colored heirloom pumpkins, white Cinderella pumpkins, or even tiger stripe pumpkins this year! You can even stack them on top of each other for added visual interest and dimension.

Simple Accents for the Win

More isn’t always better (unless we're talking pumpkins!). In order to transform your happy place into a cozy fall abode you'll want to indulge in simple fall accents. Another classic fall decorating strategy is to properly layer pillows, cozy throws, and use textures to really amp up the cozyness. Start with a base of neutral throw pillows on your couch and add one or two patterned styles of blankets or pillows in warm hues that embody the season. You can also use candles to create a warm glow and intimate atmosphere. They'll also make your home smell great! Yum! Don't forget to incorporate small styling touches like bowls filled with fall fruits, pumpkins, gourds, or pinecones to really communicate the change in season. These can be perfect for the kitchen or dining area or even on a coffee table. Try not to go overboard. You want to keep it simple and clean by incorporating thoughtful touches of pattern and color without overdoing it.
